Arkus Fun Facts
Stepping away from the normal educational posts we do at Arkus that revolve around the cloud, here are some fun facts about us that you may or may not know.
The Story Behind the Name “Arkus”
You may be asking yourself, why Arkus? This is a question we get asked from time to time and if you guessed it has something to do with a cloud then you are correct. The name Arkus was derived from the “Arcus” cloud which is a horizontal shelf cloud that is normally on the leading edge of a storm. It is typically known as a cloud that indicates a change in weather which is very symbolic of what we do. Our goal is to educate organizations on what a shift to cloud computing means and how to properly adapt to it.
CloudFocus Weekly
Since the beginning of Arkus, two of the founders, Justin Edelstein and Jason Atwood, have been doing a weekly podcast focusing on the most recent news, happenings and events in cloud computing called CloudFocus Weekly. As of 2013, CloudFocus Weekly has grown to an average thousands of downloads per week and recently celebrated its first 100 episodes at Dreamforce 2012. If you are interested in the world of cloud computing, I suggest you give it a try and make sure you listen for their CloudFocus App Pick of the Week which is at the end of every show. In addition to being the hosts of CloudFocus Weekly, Jason and Justin are Salesforce MVP’s which is a program that recognizes exceptional individuals within the Salesforce community for their leadership, knowledge, and ongoing contributions.
Potpourri
Arkus was founded in 2010 and currently has offices in Times Square, New York City. We have been known to put a bean bag chair or two in our offices for employees to enjoy. Our CRM of choice is Salesforce.com and we are big fans of all things Apple. Last but not least, Arkus has a mascot called “Arky” (above the right). Ironically, Arky is the opposite of a nimble cloud, in fact it’s a very heavy rock engraved with the Arkus logo and name. It lives in our office in Times Square.
